Osun Election: Adeleke Declares Friday Work-Free

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has declared Friday, August 14, a work-free day for public servants ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The directive was contained in a circular issued by the state Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina.

The state government said the decision was to give workers enough time to travel where necessary and prepare to participate in the election.

The work-free day covers all categories of public servants, except workers involved in emergency and essential services.

Adeleke also urged state workers to turn out in large numbers to vote and ensure that their votes are protected during the electoral process.

The governor made the appeal in a message to workers ahead of the election, while commending the leadership of the labour movement and public servants for their support for his administration.

He described the relationship between his government and workers as mutually beneficial and called on them to encourage wider participation in the election.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke asked government workers to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional groups to participate in the poll.

He said workers should remain committed to exercising their constitutional rights and encourage others to do the same.

The governor also urged workers to protect what he described as the achievements recorded by his administration during its three and a half years in office.

Adeleke described his administration as supportive of workers and said it had delivered various programmes for labour and residents of the state.

He warned against allowing the state to return to what he described as difficult periods of the past.

The August 15 governorship election is expected to see major political parties and their candidates compete for control of Osun State.
