The Ebonyi State Government has approved a monthly stipend of ₦30,000 for every National Youth Service Corps member serving in the state.

The approval was announced during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Francis Nwifuru, the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Chidiebere Onyia, said the state government was committed to improving the welfare, safety and development of corps members throughout their service year.

Onyia described Ebonyi as a peaceful and welcoming state with opportunities for young people. He urged the corps members to take advantage of their service year to gain new skills, build relationships with people from different backgrounds and contribute positively to their host communities.
He also encouraged them to take their primary assignments seriously and make meaningful contributions to the development of the state.
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Malgwi Maidariya, commended the Ebonyi State Government for supporting the scheme and promoting youth development.

She, however, called for further investment in the orientation camp at the Old MacGregor College in Afikpo to improve the welfare of corps members.
Maidariya identified the renovation and modernisation of the central kitchen, construction of a standard dining hall and provision of a fully equipped Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development centre as some of the major needs of the camp.
She also appealed for the renovation of the perimeter fence and additional improvements to facilities at the multipurpose hall.
The NYSC coordinator urged the newly deployed corps members to remain disciplined, participate actively in camp activities and uphold the values of patriotism, integrity and selfless service.
She also appreciated camp officials, security agencies and other personnel for helping to maintain order during the orientation exercise.
The ceremony featured the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members, tactical displays by the Man ’O’ War unit, cultural performances and an inspection of infrastructure projects at the orientation camp.
