INEC’s Candidates List Vindicates Us, Silences Doubters — PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the release of its presidential and National Assembly nominees by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ended months of uncertainty over its participation in the 2027 general elections.

The party said the publication of its candidates has settled speculation that it would be unable to present a presidential ticket following prolonged internal disagreements and legal disputes.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the PDP said INEC’s action confirmed Senator Prof. Sandy Ojang Onor as its presidential candidate, with Alhaji Babangida Umar listed as the party’s vice-presidential nominee.

According to the party, the publication by the electoral commission has confirmed that its nomination process complied with the law and has removed doubts surrounding its readiness for the next general election.

The PDP maintained that reports suggesting it would not produce a presidential candidate had now been overtaken by events, adding that the official publication by INEC had brought the issue to a close.

The opposition party said the development should reassure its members and supporters across the country that it remains fully involved in preparations for the 2027 elections.

The statement also expressed appreciation to party members and supporters who remained loyal despite the challenges the PDP faced in recent months.

The party thanked the Independent National Electoral Commission, the judiciary and security agencies for carrying out their constitutional responsibilities during the nomination process.

The PDP also renewed its appeal for reconciliation within its ranks, saying it remains committed to rebuilding the party through unity and dialogue.

It urged members with grievances to return and work together for the collective interest of the party ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party further welcomed members who recently returned or joined its fold, saying their decision reflected renewed confidence in its future and electoral prospects.

According to the PDP, it is determined to strengthen its internal structure and present itself as a strong alternative in the next general election.

The party added that under the leadership of its National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, it intends to offer leadership focused on national unity, development and democratic governance.

The PDP described the publication of its candidates as an important stage in its efforts to reunite the party, rebuild public confidence and position itself for the 2027 presidential election.
