2027: ‘I Won’t Let You Tie Me Down’ – Tinubu Warns Opposition

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his intention to seek another term in office in the 2027 general election, declaring that anyone seeking to replace him must be prepared for a tough political contest.

The President made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by its President, Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu said he willingly sought the office of president and remains fully committed to completing his mandate. He stated that while political opponents have every right to challenge him in the next election, he would not make the race easy for anyone.

He also dismissed concerns over the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), maintaining that the electoral body has continued to operate without intimidating any political party.

According to the President, allegations of bias against INEC often stem from political actors struggling with internal challenges rather than from any wrongdoing by the commission.

Speaking on the performance of his administration, Tinubu said his government has continued to improve the living conditions of Nigerians despite inheriting difficult economic and security challenges.

He noted that one of the achievements of his administration is the stability in the university system, pointing out that public universities have remained open without the prolonged strikes that previously disrupted academic calendars.

Tinubu said students are now able to complete their programmes within the expected duration, describing the development as a positive outcome for families and the education sector.

The President also acknowledged that security challenges remain across parts of the country but maintained that the government is working to address them. He said Nigeria remains the only nation its citizens can call home and urged all Nigerians to remain united in building a peaceful and prosperous country.

Tinubu added that his administration remains focused on strengthening national unity, improving stability, expanding educational opportunities and creating a better future for coming generations.

He said although the challenges facing the country are enormous, his government has remained committed to confronting them rather than avoiding its responsibilities.
