President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as the new Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives).

The appointment takes immediate effect, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Olanrewaju-Smart succeeds Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who stepped down from the position to pursue an elective office in his home state.

The Presidency described the new adviser as a seasoned policy professional with extensive experience in legislative affairs, governance and public administration.
Olanrewaju-Smart holds a doctorate in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University. He is also an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.
His academic and professional development also includes participation as a LEAPS Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Professional Diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations and service as a Policy Fellow at Quantum Alliance AI in the United States, where he worked on artificial intelligence and civic technology.

Before joining the Presidency, Olanrewaju-Smart built a long career in the National Assembly. He served as Research and Media Assistant to both the Minority and Majority Leaders of the House of Representatives during the 7th and 8th National Assemblies.
He later moved to the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, where he held several positions, including Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff during the 9th and 10th National Assemblies.
In October 2023, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs, a position he occupied before his latest elevation.
According to the Presidency, Olanrewaju-Smart has contributed to legislative research and public policy development, including work connected with the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new adviser would use his experience to strengthen cooperation between the Presidency, ministries, departments and agencies, and the House of Representatives.
The appointment takes effect immediately.
