The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the conferment of the prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank on 68 legal practitioners following its latest plenary meeting.

The decision was reached during the committee’s 174th plenary session held on July 23, 2026. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary of the LPPC and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi.

According to the committee, the SAN title is reserved for lawyers who have attained outstanding professional standards either through advocacy before the courts or through academic contributions that have advanced legal education and scholarship in Nigeria.

Before the successful applicants can formally receive the rank, they are expected to take part in a compulsory pre-swearing-in induction programme organised in line with the directive of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN). Attendance and successful completion of the programme remain mandatory for every approved candidate. The date for the induction will be announced later.

The committee also reminded the successful applicants to comply strictly with the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Guidelines and the Rules of Professional Conduct 2023 by avoiding the publication of congratulatory messages, advertisements or goodwill notices relating to their nomination or approval.
It warned that any violation of the guidelines could attract disciplinary measures, as provided under the relevant legal and ethical provisions governing the legal profession.
The LPPC confirmed that the formal swearing-in ceremony for the 68 successful candidates will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Among those approved for the prestigious rank are Ibrahim Gamdeh Adamu, Jude Chukwuemeka Okafor, Goodwill Achibong Umoh, Sunday Samuel Obende, Adebayo Olugbenga Adaralegbe, Jimson Ejovi Okodaso and Olalekan Lawrence Bade-John.
Others include Olaotan Thomas Olusegun, Philemon Audu Daffi, Adenrele David Adegborioye, James Eromosele Agbonhese, Alexander Nduka Muoka, Onome Okodiya, Emmanuel Akunke Akomaye and Ikhide Ekhighelua.
