A major fire has destroyed a branch of Justrite Superstore located on Akowonjo Road in the Egbeda area of Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, leaving goods and property worth millions of naira in ruins.
The incident drew a swift response from emergency agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). Firefighters and rescue officials arrived at the scene to battle the flames and stop the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident through its official X account, stating that the affected supermarket is situated close to Jimoh Bus Stop along Akowonjo Road.
According to the traffic agency, emergency teams immediately began efforts to contain the fire and secure the area while operations continued.
LASTMA also advised motorists and residents to avoid the Akowonjo and Egbeda corridor to allow emergency workers easy access to the scene. The agency announced traffic diversions around the affected area and warned road users to expect heavy traffic on Akowonjo Road and neighbouring routes.
Residents and eyewitnesses said the blaze caused extensive damage to the supermarket’s electronics section located on the upper floor of the building. Thick smoke was seen rising into the sky as firefighters continued efforts to bring the situation under control.
As of the latest update, no deaths or injuries have been officially reported. Authorities have also not determined the cause of the fire.
Officials said a full assessment of the destruction would be conducted after the fire is completely extinguished and the area is declared safe.
