Tinubu’s Abuja Projects Have Silenced Critics—Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the level of infrastructure delivered by President Bola Tinubu’s administration across Abuja has weakened the opposition, adding that completed projects are the best proof of government performance.

Wike made the remarks on Friday during the inauguration of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council. He said the projects executed under the current administration had changed the face of the Federal Capital Territory and given residents visible evidence of development.

According to him, those opposed to the President would find it difficult to convince residents in communities that have benefited from the projects because people would judge leaders by what they achieved while in office. He added that Tinubu could point to completed projects across both the city centre and satellite towns as proof of his administration’s work, saying Abuja had been transformed through ongoing development.

The minister spoke as the FCT Administration concluded its 31-day project inauguration programme, which started on June 9 and ended on July 17, 2026.

Wike described the exercise as one of the longest project commissioning programmes by any administration in the country’s history. He said no previous President had carried out project inaugurations and ground-breaking ceremonies continuously for such a period.

He stated that the administration was taking a short break after completing the exercise and would resume before the end of the year with more projects. He expressed satisfaction that the programme ended peacefully without any major incident and thanked everyone who participated.

Wike said the successful completion of the commissioning exercise reflected the administration’s determination to deliver projects instead of making promises.

He noted that residents of Kubwa and Gbazango had already begun enjoying the benefits of the reconstructed road, which had previously caused movement difficulties and slowed commercial activities in the area.

According to him, the road project has improved daily life for residents and made many people feel the direct impact of government intervention in their community.

He also said better road infrastructure would boost business activities, improve transportation and support traders and other business owners operating within the area.

The minister maintained that governance becomes effective when leaders remain committed to meeting the needs of the people, adding that the happiness of residents showed they had benefited from the Tinubu administration’s efforts.

Wike disclosed that since President Tinubu assumed office, the FCT Administration had completed and commissioned more than 53 projects, describing the achievement as evidence of focused leadership.

He assured residents that infrastructure development across the Federal Capital Territory would continue, revealing plans to commission at least 10 additional projects before the end of the year.

Responding to concerns raised by community leaders over water supply, Wike directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority to take immediate steps to address the problem and ensure residents receive adequate water.

The commissioning of the Arab/Gbazango Road marked the final project inaugurated under the FCT Administration’s anniversary programme, which included the inauguration and flag-off of major road, transport, housing and other public infrastructure projects across Abuja under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
