Canada Lists 5 Visa Mistakes That Could Trigger Five-Year Ban

Canadian immigration authorities have warned visa applicants and people planning to relocate to the country that providing false information or fake documents during the application process is a serious offence that could result in a five-year ban from entering Canada.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said applicants are responsible for ensuring that every detail submitted is accurate, even when an immigration consultant, lawyer or another representative prepares and files the application on their behalf.

Below are five common mistakes that could lead to serious immigration penalties:

1. Giving false information is a criminal offence

IRCC said submitting false information or misleading details in an immigration application is against Canadian law. This act is classified as misrepresentation and can result in an application being rejected, along with other immigration penalties.

2. Many types of documents can be fraudulently altered

The agency warned that document fraud is not limited to passports. It also includes forged or altered visas, travel documents, birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce papers, annulment and separation documents, death certificates, police clearance certificates, diplomas, university degrees, apprenticeship certificates and trade certificates.

3. You are still responsible, even if someone else files your application

IRCC explained that hiring an immigration consultant, lawyer or representative does not transfer responsibility. Applicants remain legally accountable for every document and every piece of information submitted in their name.

4. False documents can lead to a five-year entry ban

Submitting fake documents or providing misleading information can lead to an application being refused. It may also result in a ban from entering Canada for at least five years, along with other penalties under the country’s immigration laws.

5. Honesty is essential throughout the immigration process

The immigration agency advised applicants to carefully review all information and supporting documents before submitting an application. It said ensuring that every detail is complete, accurate and genuine can help applicants avoid delays, refusals and long-term immigration sanctions while protecting the integrity of Canada’s immigration system.
