Nigeria Students Threaten Action Over Xenophobia

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, warning that continued violence against Nigerians could trigger protests against South African businesses operating in Nigeria.

The student leader said no country has the right to target innocent people because of their nationality.

He argued that attacks on Nigerians were unacceptable and called on the South African authorities to protect foreign nationals and bring those behind the violence to justice.
He also warned that if the attacks continue without a firm response from the South African government, Nigerian students would mobilise peaceful actions that could include shutting down South African-owned businesses across Nigeria.
The NANS president urged both governments to address the crisis through diplomacy while ensuring the safety of Nigerians living in South Africa.
He maintained that no nation has a monopoly on violence and appealed for an end to xenophobic attacks.
