104 Soldiers Decleared Missing After Boko Haram Raid

More than 104 Nigerian Army personnel have been declared missing weeks after Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base along the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State.

The troops, attached to the 162 Battalion, have not been seen since the June 5 assault, which left at least eight soldiers dead.

The terrorists reportedly stormed the base in the early hours during heavy rainfall, killing a major and seven other soldiers while injuring several others.

Sources said the attackers overwhelmed parts of the camp before retreating, leaving behind widespread destruction.

Military authorities have now declared the missing soldiers deserters, saying they abandoned their duty posts and left with their personal weapons after the attack.

A military signal directed all Army formations to arrest any of the affected personnel found within their areas of responsibility, while sources also claimed their bank accounts had been frozen.

Some military sources questioned the desertion claim, saying it remains unclear whether the soldiers fled or were killed during the attack.

They alleged that the Army had yet to publicly account for the missing personnel, while the military has not issued an official statement on the incident.
