Nigerians Are Now Seeing Tinubu’s True Colours – Atiku

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the court ruling affecting the Nigeria Democratic Congress, saying it reflects an attempt to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

He warned that limiting political competition could push Nigeria towards a one-party system.

In a statement released on Saturday, Atiku said Nigerians were beginning to see what he described as the true character of President Bola Tinubu.

He argued that actions linked to the administration were inconsistent with its public commitment to free and fair elections and could threaten democratic governance.

The former vice president urged Tinubu to follow the example of former Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, noting that neither administration sought to remove opposition parties from the political space.

He added that any government confident in its record should welcome electoral competition.

Atiku also appealed to the judiciary to protect its independence and resist political pressure.

His comments followed Friday’s ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which set aside its earlier order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress, citing the need to hear all interested parties before deciding the matter.
