SERAP Demands N110m Refund From Akpabio, Gives Deadline

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has issued a seven-day demand to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas over funds linked to a N110 billion vehicle purchase and support allowance scheme already declared unlawful by a Federal High Court.

The action follows a ruling by Justice Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, which held that the purchase of vehicles worth N40 billion for lawmakers and N70 billion in allowances for new members breached procurement rules and failed to meet constitutional standards.

SERAP urged the National Assembly leadership to put in place systems that ensure future spending follows due process, while also calling for stronger transparency measures such as open budget sessions and full disclosure of legislative spending to the public.

The organisation warned that if no action is taken within the set deadline, it will move to court to recover the funds and hold responsible officials accountable for the unlawful expenditure.
