Security Dispatched As INEC Moves Sensitive Materials Today For Ekiti

With the June 20 governorship election drawing near, electoral officials, security agencies and civil society groups have stepped up preparations across Ekiti State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is set to begin distributing sensitive election materials to all 16 local government areas, while voters prepare to choose a governor from 13 political parties contesting the poll.

To ensure the exercise runs smoothly, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have rolled out extensive security plans.

The NSCDC deployed 10,000 personnel, while the police activated special operations to protect voters, election workers, polling units and collation centres.

The Nigerian Air Force also transported sensitive materials from Abuja to support the election and other by-elections scheduled across the country.

Efforts are equally being made to guarantee inclusion during the poll. TAF Africa announced the deployment of 150 election observers and 25 sign language interpreters to assist voters with hearing impairments.

At the same time, the Court of Appeal constituted the Ekiti Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal to handle any legal disputes that may arise after the election.

As political activities reach their peak, Governor Biodun Oyebanji appealed to residents to support his bid for a second term, saying his administration had delivered on its promises.

With election materials arriving, security personnel already positioned and logistics nearly completed, attention is now firmly on Saturday’s vote, which is expected to influence political calculations ahead of the 2027 general election.
