Opposition Lawmakers Slams Tinubu Over Worsening Insecurity, Hardship

Opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Wednesday criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over rising insecurity, economic pressure and what they described as strain on democratic governance.

They said the country is going through one of its toughest periods, with citizens facing daily hardship while attention shifts toward the 2027 elections.

The lawmakers linked their concerns to the reported abduction and death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe in Katsina State.

They also pointed to the continued captivity of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State, calling for urgent rescue efforts and stronger protection for citizens across the country.

The minority caucus also raised concerns about a court ruling involving the deregistration of five political parties.

They warned that the development could affect political competition and urged institutions responsible for elections and justice to act carefully to protect democratic space.

On the economy, the lawmakers said many Nigerians are struggling with rising prices, inflation and reduced income value.

They called on the Federal Government to focus more on security and economic recovery, saying public welfare must come before political activities.
