The operation was carried out on Monday during an intensified military search mission under Operation Fansan Yamma.

The Defence Headquarters said soldiers tracked the kidnappers to Tunga Village, where contact was made during ongoing offensive operations.

Under heavy military pressure, the bandits reportedly shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing.

She was later evacuated to a military hospital and is responding to treatment.

The rescue came as troops launched Operation Clean Sweep III in Matazu Local Government Area following the death of the retired army officer in captivity.

Security forces have since carried out raids, fighting patrols and clearance operations across several communities, destroying terrorist hideouts and logistics bases.

In a separate operation in Kebbi State, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma dislodged suspected Lakurawa terrorists from their camp in Dogon Daji.

Soldiers recovered rocket-propelled grenade launchers, explosive devices, motorcycles and other equipment, while recording no casualties during the operation.
