FG Vows Uninterrupted Power Supply To Tertiary Health Facilities

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to provide reliable electricity to thousands of health facilities across Nigeria, with a target of ensuring uninterrupted power supply to 30 per cent of tertiary hospitals by the end of 2027.

The effort is being driven through the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative, a programme aimed at improving healthcare services through stable energy.

Officials said poor electricity has continued to affect hospital operations, forcing many facilities to spend heavily on alternative power sources.

The initiative will focus on providing affordable and sustainable energy to both public and private health institutions, helping them deliver better medical services without frequent disruptions.

Speaking at a healthcare electrification forum in Lagos, government representatives said reliable electricity is essential for surgeries, vaccine storage, laboratory services, emergency care and digital health systems.

They added that the programme would combine public funding, private investment and renewable energy solutions to address long-standing power challenges in the sector.

The government also called on investors, development partners and healthcare stakeholders to support the project.

Authorities believe improved electricity supply will strengthen healthcare delivery, reduce operational costs, improve patient care and boost confidence in health facilities across the country.
