Peter Obi Holds Peace Talks In South Africa

Peter Obi travelled to South Africa on Friday and opened talks with top government officials over rising tensions involving Nigerians living in the country.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate also met members of the Nigerian community in Cape Town to hear complaints linked to immigration and safety concerns.

During the visit, Obi held meetings with South African ministers and political leaders, including officials handling home affairs, governance, sports and culture.

The discussions focused on migration, insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship and the treatment of African migrants in South Africa.

The former Anambra governor said Nigeria and South Africa must work together more closely to reduce tension and improve relations between their citizens.

He urged leaders and residents to avoid violence, provocation and hate while allowing lawful institutions to resolve disputes peacefully.

Obi also called for stronger African unity and cooperation, saying the continent’s future depends on economic growth, mutual respect and protection of citizens living outside their home countries.

The meetings come as concerns over xenophobic attacks and migrant treatment continue to affect relations between both nations.
