Demonstrators under the #SaveJabiPark campaign accused powerful politicians and land developers of trying to privatise one of the city’s few public relaxation centres.

Sowore said residents must resist what he described as a growing culture of land grabbing in the Federal Capital Territory.

He accused President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of bringing the same land acquisition practices seen in Lagos and Port Harcourt into Abuja.

He warned that traders, residents and visitors could soon lose access to the park if the development plans continue.

According to him, parts of the land have already been marked out for private projects, including residential buildings and hotels that could shut ordinary people out.

The activist said the park remains important for recreation, exercise and small businesses operating around the area.

Protesters vowed to continue resisting any move to convert the public space into private property.
