The incident happened during an attempt to verify a medical report linked to an ongoing case.

Medical workers alleged that operatives assaulted staff, fired tear gas and created panic inside the hospital premises.

Four workers, including a senior hospital official, were arrested during the operation, while videos online showed workers and patients running for safety.

The incident triggered criticism from lawyers, civil society groups and political figures, including Peter Obi, who condemned the use of force inside a medical facility.

Doctors in the state also began an indefinite strike over the confrontation.

The EFCC later said the operation was not intended as a raid and described the situation as an “aberration.”

The commission promised to investigate allegations against its operatives and warned against attempts to damage the anti-corruption campaign in Nigeria.
