Tambuwal Steps Down From Senate Race
Former Sokoto State Governor and serving senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the 2027 senatorial contest under the African Democratic Congress and backed former commissioner Faruk Yabo for the party’s ticket.
The decision was confirmed on Friday by a close aide to the lawmaker.
The withdrawal means Tambuwal will not be returning to the Senate through the ADC platform in the 2027 general elections.
Party sources said the move followed internal consultations aimed at strengthening unity and reducing contestation within the party structure in Sokoto State.
Faruk Yabo, a former commissioner for finance, local government and community development in Sokoto State, is now expected to fly the party’s flag for the Sokoto South senatorial seat.
His emergence follows Tambuwal’s decision to step aside in his favour.
The ADC in Sokoto has continued to adjust its candidate lineup ahead of the 2027 elections as political realignments intensify across the state.
Party officials say more adjustments may still follow as preparations for the polls continue.
