Why The North Picked Obi – Kwankwaso
Former Rabiu Kwankwaso has revealed that northern political leaders carefully assessed possible allies before choosing Peter Obi as their preferred partner for the 2027 presidential race.
He said the decision was based on Obi’s capacity and national appeal.
Kwankwaso explained that leaders in the North wanted someone they could work with honestly to move the country forward.
According to him, Obi stood out during their consultations, leading to the alliance now formed under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
The former Kano governor also dismissed claims of a hidden rivalry between both camps.
He argued that conflicts between political leaders and their deputies usually come from personal ambition, adding that his past political experience proved partnerships could survive pressure.
Kwankwaso linked the alliance to earlier North and South-East political partnerships in Nigeria’s history.
He said the coalition between his movement and Obi’s supporters could reshape opposition politics ahead of the 2027 election as both camps continue attracting fresh defections nationwide.
