The dispute followed the release of a report showing that dozens of aspirants were disqualified ahead of the 2027 primaries.

The committee cleared 33 aspirants, including lawmakers linked to Nyesom Wike, while 65 others failed the screening.

Several aspirants loyal to Fubara, including former factional speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, were not cleared by the panel.

The situation became more confusing after the committee secretary distanced himself from the report circulating online, describing it as unauthorised and unofficial.

Some affected aspirants also denied allegations levelled against them and accused the panel of working with a predetermined outcome.

Disqualified aspirants argued that the process was unfair and designed to favour one political camp within the party.

Many insisted they met all requirements and warned that the crisis could weaken party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
