ASUU Threatens Tinubu Over Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned of a possible nationwide strike over what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to honour parts of the 2025 agreement reached with university lecturers.

The union accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of delaying action on unresolved issues affecting public universities.

ASUU leaders said concerns over unpaid entitlements, funding challenges and welfare matters were still unresolved months after negotiations with the government.

The union maintained that several promises made during earlier discussions had not been implemented despite repeated engagements with authorities.

The lecturers warned that continued delays could disrupt academic activities across federal and state universities if urgent steps are not taken.

ASUU also called on the government to act quickly to prevent another shutdown in the education sector, which has faced repeated industrial disputes over the years.

The warning comes as many students and parents remain worried about the possibility of another prolonged strike affecting academic calendars nationwide.

Education stakeholders fear fresh industrial action could worsen challenges already facing Nigeria’s university system.
