Kwankwaso, Obi To Switch Party – Kwankwasiyya Movement
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi are expected to leave the African Democratic Congress for the Nigeria Democratic Congress next week, according to the Kwankwasiyya movement.
The planned switch follows meetings among key stakeholders who backed the move.
A spokesperson for the group said talks with the NDC are almost complete, with only minor details left.
He added that both leaders could formally join the new party early in the week after consultations in Kano and Abuja.
The decision is linked to ongoing disputes within the ADC, including unresolved leadership issues after a Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling sent the case back to a lower court.
Supporters believe the uncertainty could affect preparations ahead of the next election cycle.
The movement also weighed other options before settling on the NDC, citing internal disagreements and time pressure tied to electoral deadlines.
The expected defection may reshape opposition alliances as political groups position for 2027.
