NANS Demands Action On SA Attacks

The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on the Federal Government in Nigeria to act quickly to protect Nigerian students in South Africa amid rising xenophobic tensions.

The appeal followed reports of growing hostility and attacks targeting foreigners, especially Nigerians, in parts of the country.

The group said the situation has left many students living in fear, warning that it threatens lives and weakens ties across Africa.

It urged authorities to treat the matter with urgency and ensure that Nigerian students are protected as they continue their studies abroad.

NANS asked the government to engage South African officials through diplomacy to secure safety guarantees.

It also called for close monitoring of events and demanded that those behind attacks be held accountable to prevent further violence.

The association further pushed for support measures such as safe shelters, emergency contacts, and financial help for affected students.

It also suggested a possible evacuation plan for those willing to return home as tensions continue to rise under the leadership of Cyril Ramaphosa.
