ADC, PDP Fears Election Exclusion

In African Democratic Congress and Peoples Democratic Party, tension is rising as both parties await a ruling from the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Abuja.

The delay comes close to the electoral deadline set by Independent National Electoral Commission, raising fears about their chances in the 2027 elections.

The ADC has already written to the Chief Justice, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, seeking urgent action.

The delay stems from a leadership dispute affecting both parties, with the court yet to announce a date for judgment after hearings ended on April 22.

The ADC warned that failure to deliver a ruling soon could leave it without recognised leadership, putting its participation at risk.

The party stressed that missing the deadline for submitting membership registers could shut it out of the election.

With the deadline fixed for May 10, both parties are under pressure to complete key processes like primaries and internal arrangements.

While the ADC fears total exclusion, a faction of the PDP backed by Seyi Makinde said it still trusts the judicial process despite the uncertainty.

Another PDP bloc aligned with Nyesom Wike insisted its operations remain unaffected.

The situation has unsettled many aspirants as political activities gather pace nationwide.

While the ruling party has moved ahead with its preparations, the opposition is stuck waiting for clarity. For now, their fate in the 2027 race rests on how quickly the court delivers its decision.
