FCT NUT Calls Off Teachers Strike

The Nigeria Union of Teachers in the Federal Capital Territory has suspended its strike with immediate effect.

The decision was announced on Sunday in Gwagwalada by SWEC Chairman, Abdullahi Shafa, after an emergency meeting.

The action followed intervention by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who stepped into the dispute that began on April 20, 2026.

Shafa said the plan includes N2 billion from FCT internally generated revenue and N3 billion from area council funds.
The money will cover a 40 per cent allowance and settle unpaid benefits for primary school teachers across the territory.
Teachers have now been asked to return to classrooms on Monday, April 27.
The union said no member should face punishment for joining the strike and warned it could act again if the agreement is not honoured.
