INEC Confirms Gabam As SDP Leader
The Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised Shehu Musa Gabam as the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party.
The update followed a court ruling and was reflected on the commission’s official website. The listing carried a “By Court Order” tag across most members of the party’s executive.
The development came after a long leadership crisis within the party. Gabam now leads the National Working Committee, while Dr Olu Agunloye is listed as National Secretary.
Other officials, including the treasurer and legal adviser, were also named in the updated structure.
The change followed a decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which affirmed Gabam as the authentic chairman.
The ruling was delivered after a legal challenge filed by a party member over the legitimacy of the leadership that conducted a governorship primary in Ekiti State.
The appellate court set aside part of an earlier Federal High Court ruling, stating that the lower court lacked jurisdiction on the leadership matter.
Despite this, the court upheld aspects of the primary process based on INEC’s report, bringing clarity to the party’s leadership and internal disputes.
