Julius Abure has dismissed a ruling by the Court of Appeal which upheld Nenadi Usman as leader of the Labour Party.

The decision followed a legal battle over control of the party, with the court backing an earlier verdict.

Abure said the judgment does not stand and vowed to take the matter further.

The court, sitting in Abuja, rejected Abure’s appeal after finding it weak and without merit.

It supported a previous ruling that recognised Usman’s leadership, bringing another twist to the party’s ongoing internal crisis.

The dispute has continued since the aftermath of the 2023 elections.

Abure argued that leadership issues within a political party should not be decided by courts.

He insisted the party’s leadership structure remains valid and accused the court of ignoring internal processes.

He also questioned decisions that led to the emergence of a caretaker committee.

The conflict has deepened divisions within the party, with Independent National Electoral Commission already recognising Usman’s camp.

Abure maintained that his team will challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court, keeping the leadership tussle unresolved.
