Orji Kalu Dismisses INEC Interference Claim

Orji Kalu has dismissed claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission is being influenced by the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in Abuja during his 66th birthday engagement, he said the allegations were unfounded and damaging to Nigeria’s image. He insisted the electoral body operates independently.

He criticised opposition voices, including those from the African Democratic Congress, describing their claims as baseless.

According to him, INEC under its leadership remains neutral and deserves public trust. He urged Nigerians to focus on strengthening democracy rather than spreading doubts about the system.

Kalu also rejected suggestions that the APC is pressuring politicians to defect, stating that joining any party is a personal decision.

He maintained that Bola Tinubu has not forced anyone to switch allegiance. On political positioning, he said decisions such as zoning of offices remain the responsibility of party leadership.

On governance, the senator said recent economic reforms are showing results at the top level but challenges remain due to insecurity.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances in 2027, citing growing support for the APC. He advised political actors to focus on policies and institution-building rather than criticism.
