Atiku, however, criticised the move, saying it could restrict free expression. He argued that the directive may limit the role of the media during election periods.

In response, Ogra defended the regulator, saying it was simply carrying out its duty.

He also referenced a similar directive during the 2007 elections when Atiku was in office.

The aide further criticised Atiku’s past role in privatisation, linking it to failed outcomes. The back-and-forth reflects rising political tension ahead of 2027.
