In Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed has stepped back from plans to join the All Progressives Congress after talks broke down over party structure sharing.

The move followed weeks of negotiations between his camp and APC leaders. The disagreement centred on control of party offices at different levels.

The development has stalled what looked like a major political shift.

The issue arose during discussions involving the governor’s allies in the Peoples Democratic Party and APC stakeholders.

Mohammed’s camp pushed for a 60–40 sharing formula in favour of his structure. APC leaders rejected the demand, leading to a deadlock.

The proposal was said to mirror arrangements used in past defections elsewhere.

Talks were said to have started earlier in the year after a meeting with Bola Tinubu and APC figures.

There were indications the governor could receive a senatorial ticket and other political benefits.

Efforts to convince him reportedly included outreach by key figures like Abba Yusuf. Despite this, negotiations failed to reach common ground.

After consultations, the governor’s camp ended discussions and began weighing other political options. Party leaders in Bauchi said the conditions offered were not acceptable.

The APC has not issued any official response to the breakdown. The situation leaves the state’s political direction uncertain ahead of future elections.
