Osun Poll Fears Deepens Over INEC Postings

Some civil society groups in Osun State have raised fresh concerns about the credibility of the 2026 governorship election, warning that recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission could affect the process.

A petition sent on April 16 to INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, accused the commission of bias and raised fears about the integrity of the poll.

The groups said the situation demands urgent attention to prevent further tension.

The coalition, led by Comrade Adekunle Adeolu, alleged that staff postings within INEC’s Osun office were selective and politically driven.

It claimed that individuals with links to the All Progressives Congress were placed in key positions.

The petition argued that such moves could weaken trust in the electoral body and create doubts about neutrality.

Concerns were also raised over voter movements, with the group alleging unauthorised transfers of voters to unfamiliar locations.

According to the petitioners, this could distort voting outcomes if not addressed quickly.

They warned that any attempt to influence the election would be resisted by residents determined to protect their votes.

The coalition called for a review of recent postings and an audit of voter transfers, urging INEC to publicly reassure citizens of a fair process.

Tension has been building ahead of the August poll, with no official response yet from the commission.
