N’assembly Rejects Pipeline Contract Petitions

The joint committees on petroleum resources of Nigeria’s National Assembly have dismissed petitions calling for the breakup of pipeline surveillance contracts across oil-producing states.

The decision was taken in Abuja on Wednesday during a roundtable on pipeline security.

Lawmakers reached the resolution after adopting a motion moved by Henry Okojie, who chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream).

The panel ruled that the petitions lacked merit and should not proceed further.

The petitions had pushed for the decentralisation of surveillance contracts, arguing that more states should be involved in protecting oil infrastructure.

However, the committee maintained that existing arrangements remain in place for now.

The outcome signals the Assembly’s stance on maintaining the current structure of pipeline monitoring, as authorities continue efforts to secure oil facilities and reduce losses in the sector.
