The Nigerian Army has rejected claims that its personnel buy uniforms and protective gear with their own money.

The response came on Tuesday after a viral interview by former soldier Rotimi Olamilekan, also known as Soja Boi, raised concerns about welfare and equipment.

According to the Army, all necessary kits are provided through official channels, while salaries and allowances are paid regularly.

It explained that troops receive monthly pay, uniform allowances, and extra benefits for those deployed to operational areas to support their duties.
The military said reports suggesting soldiers purchase boots, vests, or other gear are misleading.
It added that while some personnel may choose to get extra items for comfort, such decisions are optional and not a sign of failure in supply systems.
It also clarified that Olamilekan was dismissed over disciplinary issues, including breaches of social media rules, not for sharing his views.
The Army urged the public to ignore what it described as false claims, warning that such reports could affect morale and security.
