The African Democratic Congress has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress-led federal government of trying to destabilise the party following the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In a statement, the ADC said there are attempts to pressure the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Ojo Amupitan, to interfere in its internal leadership matters.

The party claimed that a legal letter linked to an expelled member is being used to push INEC into taking decisions before the courts deliver a final ruling.

It described the move as part of a wider plan to weaken the party’s structure.

ADC said it would resist any such action using constitutional means and urged INEC to remain neutral and guided by the law.

The party added that its rising popularity is causing concern within the ruling camp.

According to the statement, the controversy centres on a dispute over party leadership, with the ADC insisting that claims by a former member to leadership positions are invalid.

The party maintained that no pressure or legal manoeuvre would stop its growth, adding that Nigerians deserve the freedom to choose from strong opposition platforms.
