The protest followed outrage over the installation of an Igbo traditional ruler, which many locals said challenged the authority of recognised traditional structures.

Demonstrators argued the event conflicted with the country’s constitutional and cultural order.

Community leaders called for the deportation of Nigerians linked to the ceremony and warned that failure to act could lead to unrest.

They also raised concerns about immigration, business activities, and the role of foreign nationals in local communities.

As tensions grow, both the South African government and Nigerian authorities are yet to issue formal responses.

The situation has revived wider debates around immigration, identity, and traditional leadership in the country.
