The convention, organised by a caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, started at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, with delegates arriving for accreditation and security checks.
Party leaders and stakeholders were also present at the venue.
Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, said the electoral body was represented by senior officials, including national commissioners and directors, describing their presence as part of the process.
The convention is expected to produce new party officials who will lead the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections. It is scheduled to run for two days.
Despite the turnout, the gathering is taking place amid internal divisions and legal disputes within the party, following a rival convention held earlier in Ibadan.
Organisers insist all legal steps were followed and say reconciliation efforts will continue after the event, as the party works to resolve its internal crisis.
