The order was issued by Justice U.P. Kekemeke following his absence in court on Thursday.

The case, filed by the Nigeria Police Force, accuses Turaki of giving false information in a petition submitted in 2022.

Prosecutors say the offence violates provisions of the Penal Code and carries legal consequences.

Turaki’s lawyer told the court his client stayed away because of a petition seeking to move the case to another judge.

However, the prosecution argued that such a move does not stop court proceedings or excuse disobedience to a court order.

The judge agreed and ruled that there was no valid reason for his absence, leading to the arrest order.

The case is part of an ongoing legal battle involving the former minister, who also holds a leadership position in the Peoples Democratic Party.
