FCT Chairman Defects To APC
In Abuja on Wednesday, Bwari Area Council Chairman John Gabaya left the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the All Progressives Congress.
The move comes as he nears the end of his second term and prepares for the 2027 elections.
He said the decision followed consultations and aligns with his political plans ahead of the polls.
Gabaya said the switch is aimed at improving development in the council through closer ties with the Federal Government.
He explained that working with the ruling party would help attract projects and strengthen governance in the area.
The move also signals a wider political shift as preparations for 2027 gather pace.
The chairman, who was elected under the PDP in 2019, is now seeking a seat in the House of Representatives for the AMAC/Bwari constituency.
He added that the defection is not driven by conflict but by a desire to serve the people better.
Gabaya voiced hope for peaceful and credible elections in 2027 and expressed confidence that the council will support President Bola Tinubu.
