Makinde Breaks Silence On Defection Rumours

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed speculation that he may leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his commitment to the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Local Government House Secretariat in Ibadan on Monday, Makinde emphasised that the PDP remains relevant and will field candidates for all elective positions from the state to the national level.

He called for unity within the party, urging leaders to adopt consensus-building strategies and resolve differences across zones.

“Those saying PDP will die are mistaken. We will remain in PDP and win,” he stated.


Makinde also announced automatic tickets for first-term National Assembly members and members of the state House of Assembly, while promising arrangements for returning legislators based on agreements and rotational considerations.


The governor stressed that the upcoming elections are not only about 2027 but also about the future of democracy and future generations.

He highlighted that a consensus-based candidate selection process would guide the party, reinforcing cohesion and ensuring PDP’s dominance in the state.
