Wike Backed PDP Seeks Unity Ahead Convention

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party are calling for unity and reconciliation ahead of the party’s 2026 national convention scheduled to hold in Abuja.

The move comes amid ongoing efforts to rebuild the party after internal crises and legal battles.

Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed urged members to put aside differences and focus on restoring confidence within the party.

He said the convention process must be inclusive and credible, with leaders committed to strengthening the party’s future.

Former Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who chairs the convention committee, described the event as a defining moment.

He stressed the need for honest reconciliation, saying unity is key to repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The convention push follows a prolonged leadership dispute involving factions linked to Nyesom Wike, which led to court cases and uncertainty over party leadership.

A recent ruling by the Court of Appeal nullified a previous convention, creating room for a fresh process.

Party officials say the upcoming convention must produce widely accepted leaders capable of guiding the PDP into the next election cycle, as efforts intensify to reunite members and regain political strength.
