Nigeria and United Kingdom have reached a new agreement that allows British authorities to return failed asylum seekers and convicted offenders, following talks during Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit.

The deal was signed by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

The arrangement gives the UK wider powers to send back individuals who have overstayed visas or lost asylum claims.

Authorities in both nations say the move is part of efforts to tighten migration control while maintaining cooperation.
Nigeria is also expected to review its laws on immigration-related crimes, while both sides plan to target online fraud schemes through a coordinated system involving government agencies and private institutions.
