The move comes as part of efforts to ensure fairness and balanced representation in the state’s leadership.

The Coalition of Concerned Christian Stakeholders argued that since the start of democratic rule, only one Christian has held the governor’s office.

They stress that this campaign is about inclusion and equal opportunity, not religious rivalry.

Kwara’s diverse population, including Yoruba, Nupe, Baruba, Fulani, Igbo, and Hausa communities, alongside Christian, Muslim, and Traditional faiths, has influenced the coalition’s appeal for leadership that reflects the state’s plural identity.

Past governors have predominantly been Muslim, with Chief Cornelius Adebayo in 1983 the only Christian leader in recent history.

The coalition wants Christians to have fair access to political offices and for parties to prioritise a candidate from Kwara South.

They view the 2027 election as a chance to restore balance in state leadership and ensure all communities feel represented.
