The increase in the House followed the defection of six lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party during plenary.

In a separate development, the African Democratic Congress also recorded gains after several opposition lawmakers joined the party, boosting its presence in the National Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session, read the letters of defection from the lawmakers, many of whom cited internal disputes within their former parties as the reason for their decision.
