UNILAG Lecturers Begins Indefinite Strike

Lecturers at the University of Lagos have begun an indefinite strike after receiving reduced salaries for January and February 2026.

The decision was announced by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, UNILAG chapter, after an emergency meeting held by the union’s leadership.

Union leaders said the protest was triggered by salary payments that were cut by the university management.

They explained that staff members at the Akoka campus did not receive EAA payments in January, while those at the Idi-Araba campus were paid without both EAA and CATA allowances.

The lecturers also said the February salary was again paid with deductions, a move the union described as unfair and unacceptable.

Members insisted that the action breached the agreement guiding staff payments in federal universities.

Academic activities are expected to remain suspended from Wednesday as lecturers withdraw their services.

The union said the strike will continue until the university management pays the outstanding salaries in full.
