The new law is based on the Kampala Convention, an African Union framework designed to safeguard people forced to leave their homes due to conflict, violence, disasters and other crises.

It sets out measures to protect their rights and ensure they receive proper care and assistance.

The legislation also outlines responsibilities for government institutions and agencies involved in managing displacement.

It seeks to strengthen coordination in providing shelter, security and humanitarian support for displaced communities across Nigeria.

With the presidential approval now secured, the law is expected to guide national efforts in addressing internal displacement and improving protection for vulnerable citizens affected by emergencies.
