Uncertainty Trails FCTA Workers As Wike Clears Some Staffs

Uncertainty surrounds hundreds of workers in the Federal Capital Territory Administration after the confirmation of appointments for more than 1,600 staff was approved.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, gave approval for 1,659 employees to be confirmed following an examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

The development was disclosed on Sunday in a statement issued by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

The confirmed staff were part of the 2,281 workers who took part in the confirmation test held on February 28, 2026.

Although 2,512 workers were invited to sit for the exercise, only 2,281 appeared, while 224 failed to show up, raising concerns among officials that some names could belong to ghost workers.

Attention has now turned to the remaining 622 candidates whose status was not explained in the announcement.

The commission said some of the workers who participated in the test were first employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others joined the administration shortly before Wike became minister in August 2023.
