Two rival factions have expressed confidence ahead of the judgment.

One group is aligned with governors including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, supporting a National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki.

The other faction is loyal to Nyesom Wike and backs a caretaker committee headed by Mohammed Abdulrahman with Samuel Anyanwu as acting national secretary.

The dispute began after the party’s convention in November produced a new leadership backed by several governors, while the Wike-aligned group formed its own caretaker committee shortly afterwards.

Tensions escalated when rival meetings at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja turned chaotic, prompting the Nigeria Police Force to seal the building.

Several lawsuits followed as both factions sought recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The appellate court later consolidated the cases and heard arguments earlier in February, with the judgment expected to determine who legitimately controls the party structure.

Party leaders on both sides say they trust the judiciary and remain optimistic that the ruling will support their position.

The outcome is widely seen as crucial for the party’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
